About Andrew

On September 11, 2001, Eagle Scout Andrew Curry Green of eLogic Corporation was killed on board American Airlines Flight #11. Life for Andrew was always enthusiastically defined by his sense of adventure, the aplomb with which he met personal and professional challenges, and his love of the outdoors, music and art. Andrew lived one of those lives, that although short, was deep, in that he touched the hearts and minds of his family, friends and colleagues.

Those who worked closely with Andrew use words like "integrity", "hard-working", "capable" and "big goofy smile" when they remember him. Echoing these words, friends from Andrew's early years in Scouting have thought of a way to honor Andrew and create a place to remember how he lived: build a boat house for youth at the summer camp that he loved.

Andrew Curry Green had a love for life. His was one of those lives, that although short, was wide, in that he touched the hearts and minds of his friends and brothers.

Andrew Peter Charles Green was born in 1967 in Chelmsford MA. Throughout his life he expressed adventure and enthusiasm. Life for Andrew was always enthusiastically defined by his sense of adventure. Growing up with his older sister Sally and younger brothers Matthew and Stephen, the Green’s shared a love of the outdoors, music and art.

It was through Boy Scouting that Andrew would make some of his closest friends in life. Andrew joined Troop 81 in Chelmsford. Here he learned the basics. It was the adventure of camping outdoors that appealed to him. In 1985 he earned his Eagle Award.

Troop 81 elected Andy to the Order of the Arrow. On a warm September night at Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation he became a member of Wannalancit Lodge #451. That night for the first time he repeated the words of the Obligation of the Order of the Arrow. Those words became thematic as he grew from a boy to a man. “I will seek to preserve a cheerful spirit even in the midst of irksome tasks and weighty responsibilities”. Throughout his life, in good times and bad, Andrew always maintained his optimism.

As a member of Lodge 451, Andrew served as an officer and committee chairman. He worked summers at Wah-Tut-Ca as a member of the staff. He alternated between his love of sports and of art. Some summers he served as a life guard at the waterfront and other summers as the handicraft director.

In 1983 Andrew attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference. Wannalancit Lodge had sent one of the largest delegations in the Nation to the conference. Andrew was a member of the Lodge Ceremonial Team that won National Honors in NOAC Competition.

In his junior year at Chelmsford High School he began dating a fellow student, Shannon Curry whom he married in 1990. Together they lived an adventure of the heart.

At age 18, Andrew almost died. He grabbed a flaming pan from the stove and ran outside to save his family and their home. He wound up with burns over 80 percent of his body and spent the summer recuperating. But the experience didn’t make him timid, says Shannon. “He continued taking risks,” He spent the summer in the hospital and emerged with physical scars and a breathtaking drive, a person who embraced risks "professionally, athletically and emotionally," his wife said.

He crammed all kinds of activity into his days, skiing and kayaking like an expert and playing the drums à la Led Zeppelin. He loved art. His interests crisscrossed time and space. Shannon described Andrew as ”a person who could go from talking about a book that just came out to telling a knock-knock joke from sixth grade."

Andrew graduated from White Mountain School, Littleton, NH, in 1986. He attended Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor degree in Liberal Arts. In 1998 he eared an MBA (Masters in High-Tech Business Admin), Northeastern University.

Never far from his Brothers, Andrew was a founding member of the Key Foundation Inc. in 1988. The Key Foundation, Inc. is a Massachusetts non-profit corporation established in 1987, and provides financial, program, and resource support to a variety of Scouting programs, including its summer camps. Andrew also became the Foundations Executive Director. He also served as a Vice President and member of the Executive Board of the Greater Lowell Council Boy Scouts of America.

In 2000 he became the Director of Business Development of eLogic Corporation, an electronic press services group. In August 2001, he joined with his Camp and OA buddies for their annual re-union canoe trip on the Saco River.

Andrew had relocated to Santa Monica California earlier that year. He was in Boston on company business on September 10, 2001. That night, after a day of meetings he had called his mother from his hotel and asked whether it was too late to run up to her house in Chelmsford, Mass. for a visit. “Of course not”, Pat Green told him. He arrived at 10:30, and the two of them sat up until 1 a.m., talking. "That was a gift," she said.

Andrew left the next morning from Logan Airport in Boston, headed to Los Angles. He was on American Airlines Flight 11.
